After a quick tour of the Olympic Village from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, we went to a silk factory.
This was our guide for the tour, Mary. She reminded me of a cartoon character and kept saying, "Follow Mary, follow Mary." She even scolded Bob for not listening!
There was a real silk worm inside this silk coccoon! You can see their little bodies below. Yuck.
We all helpied make a silk blanket by stretching the silk threads and stacking the product. Then they wanted us to buy a blanket. We were wise enough to pass through this area and find the other beautiful silk made in China. We bought some lovely pieces but you will have to visit us in Belgium to see them! We also went to a jade factory and took a similar tour. We bought a lot more jade than we did silk. Loved that factory!
