Unbelievable The Terracotta warriors were huge. Housed in 4buildings the size of football fields are rows and rows of warriors, horses and carriages made of terracotta clay. Their construction began in the era of Emperor QinShihuang, the first emperor in Chinese history, during the Qin Dynasty in the year 247 BC. This emperor did great things for the country like standardizing weights and measures, handwriting and politics. But he also spent his entire life fearing death and searching for the elixir of immortality. He believed that when he died there would be a continuation of life under the earth. He surrounded his mausoleum with this huge army of clay soldiers to protect him. In other areas surrounding his grave, they have even started to find clay figures of entertainers and clay animals.

I have ALWAYS wanted to see the Terra Cotta warriors. I am very jealous. Your girls are so very lucky. Looks like you are making the most of your summer.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I always wanted to see this site too. They had a small exhibit of a few of the warriors when I was in Atlanta, but I missed it. That first picture is amazing in showing how many there were.
