Sicily-Mt. Etna

Mt. Etna IS Sicily. For us it was the landmark we drove around, up to and viewed from every direction. On Christmas Eve we set off to drive up to the mouth of the crator. We left beautiful weather and the coastline in the picture above.
We drove to the part of the Volcano that had erupted in 1986. Our plan was to take a tram higher up to the actual top of Mt. Etna.
Before we could even begin to start our hike, the weather changed to what you see below.
Then the hail came...fast and furious! It was so bad we couldn't even drive down the volcano to escape. We were forced to visit the only souvenir shop and restaurant to wait out the storm.

We saw and learned a lot. Active volcanos like Mt. Etna are a little creepy and scary and on the day we were there, it was cold and wet!
